Researcher/PostDoc │ Plant Biomechanics Group Freiburg
The Plant Biomechanics Group Freiburg (Botanic Garden, Faculty of Biology, University of Freiburg, Germany; head: Prof. Speck) invites applications for the position of a Scientific assistant/PostDoc position (m/f/d) for the BioElast project “Kinematische Prinzipien und Bewegungsdesign bei sich durch Verformung bewegende Pflanzenstrukturen als Ideengeber für bioinspirierte Materialsysteme und Bauelemente in der Architektur” („Kinematic principles and motion design in shape shifting plant structures as concept generators for bio-inspired material systems and building elements in architecture”).
The study will include the analysis of functional morphology, biomechanics and functional resilience of several plant role models, e.g. snap-trap carnivorous plants. In collaboration with project partners from the IBB Stuttgart (Institut für Baustatik und Baudynamik / Institute for Structural Mechanics), the results will be used in iterative steps for modelling and simulation of biomechanics and actuation principles of plant movements, finally leading to the establishment of a theoretical motion design framework.
The position is limited for 12 months (parental leave replacement). The salary will be determined in accordance with TV-L E13 (full position, 100%).
To apply to this vacancy, candidates need to submit an application to email@example.com, stating “BioElast Project 2” in the subject line, until 02.03.2020 The application has to include a letter of motivation, a CV (including list of publications) and copies of pertinent certificates. Please combine all documents into one single pdf file. The successful candidate is expected to start as early as possible.
