International Bionic Award 2023

In 2023, it is time again: Every other year the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and the Schauenburg Foundation jointly present the International Bionic Award for outstanding scientific work in the field of product development in biomimetics. The Award is endowed with 5,000 EUR and addresses young scientists in the whole world. Submission deadline for papers in English is February 17, 2023.

The International Bionic Award honors excellent works, for example a biomimetic/ bionic product development, a bachelor thesis or a dissertation / habilitation that has been completed within the last two years before the submission deadline. Both individuals and teams can participate. An international jury of top-ranking scientists in biomimetics will determine the International Bionic Award Winner or Winners.

In 2020, Julien Dupeyroux received the International Bionic Award 2020 for his outstanding research on an autonomously navigating robot, which he carried out as a PhD research at the University of Aix-Marseille.

Biomimetics is an interdisciplinary scientific discipline in natural and engineering sciences. It ranks among the most important future technologies. Developments in biomimetics often provide innovative and novel solutions for technical problems inspired by nature. In 2008, the International Bionic Award was launched by the Schauenburg Foundation and the VDI, and was established to encourage start-ups and to open new vistas for young scientists in developing innovative products in biomimetics suited for real life applications. The impressive success of past awardees speaks for itself.

Further information on the award and the conditions of participation can be found at www.vdi.de/bionic-award.
